Best Wedding Photography 2016
2016. All the Feels.
What a beautiful, jam-packed, makes-your-heart-beat-faster kind of year. 2016 we love you with a cherry on top. I’m pretty sure this year will always sparkle that little bit brighter in our memories. For one thing, we got married! As Toby said earlier today, still with vague surprise, “You’re my wife”. Darn tootin’ I am. We said yes in a field in France. Bruce Springsteen featured heavily, as did food, wine and elephants (not real ones!). We sang lots, danced hard and ended in the swimming pool. Bloody brilliant!
Time has somehow run away with us – it doesn’t seem five minutes since we were debating table plans and spraying the world with copper paint but in the last twelve months we’ve photographed 43 awesome weddings, clocked up thousands of motorway miles, drunk way too many Costa coffees and sampled Lenny’s beds in Premier Inns all over the country. We’ve experienced some of the most significant moments in families’ lives, cried at Father of the Bride’s speeches, watched people burst with pride, shared in their just-got-married excited feeling and seen people go crazy all over the dance floor. We’ve visited Devon, Leek, Kent, Liverpool, The Lake District, London, Warwickshire, Derby and Yorkshire, to name just a few places and photographed in every conceivable type of wedding venue, from tipis, to town halls, barns to forests.
In all the crazy busy-ness there have been so many best bits that it’s almost impossible to choose just a small selection of our very favourites – each location and every couple has brought something unique. There have been a few extra special highlights – photographing our first Liverpool wedding was a proud moment for half-scouse Hannah, shooting two weddings at an awesome new venue, The West Mill, which is super close to home in Derbyshire and has the best windows ever!!! Standing in a field of horses at sunset with a bride and all her barefoot bridesmaids, discovering how crazy Israeli dancing actually is (the groom’s Dad got a bloody nose! good effort!) and documenting our gorgeous friend Anna’s wedding to her lovely Richard.
We didn’t think 2016 could get much better but in November excitement levels went off the chart – we won an award! Red on Blonde Photography was named East Midlands Wedding Photographer of the Year 2017 in The Wedding Industry Awards and we couldn’t be more chuffed. We’d like to thank all our wonderful couples from the very bottom of our hearts. It really does mean so much to us that you took the time to vote and we never forget how lucky we are to do what we do. Also a big shout out to our Nine Dots Photography crew and our local community of amazing photographers – we can’t thank you enough for your support, advice, inspiration and Sambuca-fuelled night out.
So, it’s with open hearts, slightly rounder bellies, a new-found love for Sing Star, Head’s Up and Articulate and a promise to never play Pictionary again that we welcome in 2017. We can’t wait to see what this year will bring – we’re starting with our honeymoon (yay!) and have trips planned for weddings in Tuscany (woo hoo!) and Corsica, where Hannah gets to be a bridesmaid for her best friend, a couple of super exciting new projects – watch this space – and loads more gorgeous upcoming weddings… 2017 let’s be avin ya! We wish you all the most fabulous year filled with love. xxx
