Tipi Garden Wedding Photography

Errrr Wow!!

You guys have done such a great job. It felt like going through the whole day all over again. So many smiles & so nice to see all the stuff captured we didn’t get to see.

Philly & Josh’s Tipi Garden Wedding with a Tropical Twist

A tipi garden wedding in your Aunt & Uncle’s field, personal ceremony with your best friend as celebrant, your brother (who just happens to be a professional musician with very cool hair) on guitar and vocals, fish tacos, mac n cheese, signature cocktails, vintage car, flower crowns, gold, glitter, a bathtub of beers and a crisp station. Wedding photography dreams were made right here people.

We first chatted to Philly & Josh from our hotel room in Cape Town, when we were on our honeymoon. From their initial email we somehow just knew we couldn’t wait to get this pair in our wedding calendar. Too bloody right! Awesome and any list of superlatives doesn’t quite cut it. The love between Philly & Josh and their passion for creating a day to celebrate all their favourite people, managed to pour out of cyber space and fill us with warmth and so much positive energy for this couple and their friends and families before we’d even met. Their wedding photography brief was that we capture the people who mean the most to them in a reportage style having fun and being in the moment. Sounds like our kind of gig. The connection felt genuinely special and when Josh happened to mention that he worked in the whisky business our fates were sealed!

If you want to know how to throw the ultimate, super personal, mega-fun tipi wedding with a banging party, look no further. The ceremony setting was idyllic – in a field under an oak tree, with giant balloons, guests on wooden benches and pallets creating a stage for the bride & grooms’ vows. Enter bridesmaids : black Land Rover Defender, driven by the Maid of Honour, music pumping, 5 gold-gowned beauts jump out the back. Next the bride rolls up in a Citroen DS, oozing boho-inspired perfection, with a crown of green and white blooms, long flowing curls and an elegant, low-backed wedding dress. The groom’s brother led everybody in a chorus of ‘All you Need is Love’ and I reckon there was enough love in that field to cover the whole country.

The truly fabulous Val from Benessamy Wedding Planning (if you’re looking for an event planner!) helped Philly & Josh bring together an all-star cast of wedding suppliers, to create a feast of fun for the guests (and our cameras) in and around the tipis. There was a tropical theme, with potted palms, natural wood and splashes of gold decoration and lots of garden games to keep everybody entertained. At night the magical festoon lighting created the best outdoor party vibe – one guy couldn’t resist dancing before it had officially started 🙂

The key players danced into the wedding breakfast (seriously delicious food from Thomas the Caterer!) & the party really went from there. Shout out to Infinite Bisous (Josh’s bro’s band) and The Revue for playing seriously awesome tunes. One of our all-time favourite photos captures the groom taking over the mic, with his bro and that hair on guitar. The crowd were mad fer it!

This was one of those weddings that was pure joy to shoot and left us buzzing, loving life and incredibly thankful to these gorgeous humans for letting us into their lives and trusting us to photograph their wedding story. Here’s to you all. Long may you rock! xxx
