The West Mill Wedding Photography

These are incredible photos! We can’t thank you guys enough!

Derby’s The West Mill opening its doors for weddings has to be one of our very favourite things about 2015. It’s one of those venues that just gets you in all the right places. For starters, the building is mega impressive and the riverside location is pretty spectacular. Secondly, it’s red brick. My fave. And most of all, they’ve kept the original features inside – exposed brick walls, tiled floors, cast iron beams (for prime pole dancing opportunities) and an arched cast-iron ceiling in the Cotton Quarter, where ceremonies are held. It’s just all-round awesome and from a photographer’s perspective the best feature has to be the MAHOOSIVE Georgian paned windows, which create stunning light and make The West Mill the perfect venue for wedding photography in ALL seasons. And an even bigger bonus for us – The West Mill is in Derbyshire and we live just down the road.

So, with The West Mill being so unique, awesome and industrial-chic it would follow that super cool couples get married here. Enter Sophie and Sam and their gorgeous little boy, Austin.  Sophie and Austin are stars of Instagram and share gorgeous pictures of ‘Austin’s Adventures’ everyday, so we had an inkling that this wedding would be beautifully styled. We just didn’t know quite how perfectly it would all go together and complement the venue. If you’ve seen our own wedding photographs you’ll already know I’m a massive fan of copper and there was a lot of it – lanterns, candle holders, ties, a copper tier on the cake and the copper tones worked so beautifully with the soft metallics of the bridesmaids’ dresses, the venue’s interior and the sparkly jewels on Sophie’s exquisite 1920’s wedding gown by Eliza Jane Howell (another favourite of mine – she designed my wedding dress!). The bridal bouquet by Nadia di Tullio was all pale greys, lilacs and whites, which created a striking contrast, with the delicate flowers set against an industrial backdrop.

These guys partied like there was no hangover to follow and had one of the best wedding bands I’ve ever seen; The Indie Killers almost blew the chimney up to Manchester. It was loud!!!! And there were guitars and a lot of tongue wagging. And those iron beams were taken full advantage of. And ties went round heads. Hell yeah!

It was a day filled with love, fun, tender moments, big laughs, good food and awesome music, just as every wedding should be. We were so happy to be a part of it – thank you Sophie and Sam for inviting us to document your wedding and tell a little bit more of Austin’s story. We can’t wait to return to The West Mill for more weddings this year!
